Griff Green explains the internal reasoning that moved him from hesitation to full support for the Arbitrum Security Council’s decision to freeze $70M of stolen funds.

The hesitation came from a simpler but riskier approach, upgrading the Arbitrum node, which would have required broad coordination to avoid breaking the network and causing collateral damage to other protocols.

Once the forced inclusion approach was found, the objections fell away.

Griff then makes the deeper philosophical argument: blockchain immutability is a social convention, not a technical guarantee. Social consensus is the real accountability layer in Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Arbitrum alike, and the community’s response to this action proves it.
