The team behind Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP memecoin blamed automated sniper bots and thin starting liquidity for a first day that carried the token above $300 and then erased almost all of it. LAPTOP began trading on Base on Wednesday and fell more than 99% within roughly one hour, according to DexScreener data.

In a post published Wednesday, the project said the initial pool opened at $0.05 per token into demand its market maker could not supply, making it a target for bots that hunt cheap tokens in new pools. The team said it is deploying 4 million tokens, or 0.4% of supply, to incentivize liquidity on Aerodrome pools starting at midnight UTC on Sept. 10. It also said two events tied to the coin’s prediction allocation resolved yes, burning 10 million tokens and cutting circulating supply by 1% inside the first week. The first, worth 5 million tokens, resolved when the digital artist Beeple referenced LAPTOP.

Blockchain analytics firm Bubblemaps found that about 80% of LAPTOP traders lost money, including two wallets down between $100,000 and $1 million, roughly 100 down more than $10,000 and about 700 down more than $1,000. Bubblemaps also found that roughly 60% of the largest holders were wallets with no prior onchain history, most of them funded on the day of the launch.

LAPTOP was pitched as the anti-TRUMP launch, and the team used its post to defend that framing: no presale, no influencer allocations, a Hacken audit and a MiCA whitepaper filed with the Dutch AFM before a single trade, and founder tokens locked for six months and vesting over two years in Coinbase Custody. Biden said X suspended the LAPTOP foundation’s account on Wednesday and that he is “not going anywhere.” The token traded near $0.84 early Thursday.

Biden confirmed the coin on Sept. 7 and built its distribution around Trump’s memecoin, reserving 2% of supply for wallets that lost money on TRUMP, and tied 30% of supply to 30 public predictions that either burn tokens or send them to charity.
