Robinhood is working to add share redemptions and voting rights to its Stock Tokens, addressing the two complaints that have followed the product since it launched. “In-kind redemption and voting are coming for Robinhood Stock Tokens,” CEO Vlad Tenev posted on X on Monday.

Redemption for shares at a one-to-one ratio is in active development, Robinhood Head of Crypto Johann Kerbrat said earlier on X, with voting for eligible holders on the roadmap. Kerbrat pointed to Say by Robinhood, the company’s shareholder engagement platform, as existing infrastructure for the voting piece.

The remarks mark a shift from the current status quo where Robinhood’s stock tokens offer holders economic exposure to a share price, but not ownership or beneficial rights.

The announcement follows a public spat between Robinhood and AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron, who this month called the tokens tracking his company’s stock “vile” and said he had put outside securities counsel on it.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said Monday that voting rights are coming to Coinbase’s tokenized equities, which already support one-for-one redemption into underlying shares and pass through dividends. Securitize CEO Carlos Domingo, who favors issuer-sponsored tokenization, said on X that calling these products stock tokens misleads investors, and questioned whether shareholder rights can be attached to tokens that move freely between wallets where the holder’s identity and location are unknown.

The commercial stakes are growing fast. Robinhood Chain launched July 1 and its total value locked has climbed to nearly $1 billion, with daily DEX volume of nearly $2 billion, according to DeFiLlama data. Securitize’s Brett Redfearn told Unchained this week that the SEC’s coming tokenization exemption will likely let companies opt out of having their shares tokenized.
