Hunter Biden said the Clarity Act failed because the Trump administration “refused to bend on the ethics laws” as they applied to “Trump’s family personally,” and that it will be “very, very difficult in the next two years” to get the bill passed.
“That’s the single biggest reason that we did not get the CLARITY Act, from my estimation,” Biden said in an interview on the show that streamed Wednesday.
Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, said Democrats can be blamed for not passing the bill, but argued the administration’s stance on ethics was the real cause. The Senate fell short of the 60 votes needed to open debate on the bill on Sept. 15, after Democrats demanded tighter conflict-of-interest rules for the president and his family.

What the Final Text Covered
Republicans released a final draft on Sept. 14. Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) said it held “every federally elected official, judge, and their spouses” to new ethics restrictions that Trump had agreed to voluntarily. The text did not name officials’ children, Unchained reported.
Biden said most Democrats have not studied crypto and know it mainly through Trump’s ventures. “Their only introduction to it has been through Donald Trump’s grift,” he said on the show.
He said their resistance “comes from not being educated on it.” Earlier in the interview, he said “the reason that I launched a coin was to get them to start to pay attention to the issue.” Biden’s LAPTOP memecoin began trading on Base on Sept. 9 and fell more than 99% within about an hour, as Unchained reported.
Biden on the Bill’s Next Two Years
Host Laura Shin asked what Democrats should do if they win the House or the Senate in November, and whether it was confusing that they had, in effect, voted to keep “the status quo,” which places no limits on Trump. Biden said lawmakers would have many other priorities. People like himself who have a view on crypto and are not what he called “knee-jerk” MAGA backers or conservatives need to speak up and educate members of Congress, he said.
Biden said he is not an elected official, has no plans to run for office and does not speak for the Democratic Party.
