Crypto denizens have raised nearly $690,000 to put the Dogwifhat meme onto the Las Vegas Sphere, a music and entertainment venue widely known for its LED displays that wrap around its interior and exterior.
To display a Shiba Inu puppy wearing a pink woven beanie onto the Las Vegas Sphere, people started transferring USDC on March 9 into a multisig wallet controlled by five individuals. The target goal for the fundraiser was $650,000, but at press time, a few days later, the amount raised stood at $688,469.
“I expected to raise the entire amount, but no I didn’t know there would be extra money,” wrote Mihir (@__mihir), one of the key signers for the multisig wallet, to Unchained in a private message on X.
Big Gains for WIF
The amount raised comes as WIF, the ticker for the Solana-based memecoin based on Dogwifhat, has increased nearly 25% in the past seven days to trade at $2.56 at the time of publication, data from CoinGecko shows.
WIF is one of the most popular tokens to trade on Solana-based decentralized exchanges in the past week. The trading pair SOL-WIF is the fifth largest on Solana by total volume in the past seven days, according to a Dune dashboard created by data scientist Andrew Hong.
Since the start of 2024, the memecoin’s market cap has grown from roughly $169 million to over $2.5 billion.
Multisig Members
Ansem (@blknoiz06), a crypto trader who has over 232,000 followers on X, was added to the fundraising multisig in part because he is “a public figure that the community knows,” wrote Mihir. “The other 4 people including myself were early community members. They were putting in the work for marketing-related efforts when this token was around a few mil marketcap,” Mihir added.
In addition to Ansem and Mihir, the other three controlling members of the multsig wallet are Edward (@GamesMasterFlex), Tayeb (@tayebkenzari), and Quasi (@motocap_).
The four other multisig controllers did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
